Enrolling in the latest 2012 Washington State approved Traffic Control Flagger Certification Course is the first step "on the road" to gaining employment with construction contractors and temporary labor agencies throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho & Montana.
This Course was developed by The Evergreen Safety Council using specific Federal (MUTCD) and Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) guidelines. Flagger Safety and Compliance is monitored by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) See www.lni.wa.gov/Safety/Topics/AtoZ/topic.asp?KWID=119
Even though Law Enforcement and Fire (EMS) Agencies operate under OSHA regulations, they should consider having their personnel attend our Flagger Certification course. Meeting OSHA regulations may not be enough to protect local "First Responder" personnel when dealing with traffic thru accident/incident scenes.
The Washington State Flagger Certification Course is a 1 day class, typically held on Saturdays. Though Evergreen Safety Council only requires the course to be a minimum of 6 hours, our class typically runs 8 hours to provide a thorough broad-base explanation of what's expected to be a safe Certified Flagger.
Students are taught the fundamentals of traffic control, including:
- Flagger Training Requirements
- Flagger Qualifications & Responsibilities
- Flagger Positioning for Safety
- Motorist and Pedestrian Safety
- Flagger Signals
- Elements that comprise the "Work Zone"
- ANSI-ISEA required Retroreflective Vests & Garments
- Nighttime Flagging requirements
- Updated Wa. State WSDOT Flagger Lighting requirements
- Flagging on High Speed Roadways & at Intersections
- P.R.T. - Driver Perception/Reaction Time
- PROWAGS & ADA (Handicapped) Laws & Considerations
- The driver's "bubble or safe space" and Intimidation Liabilities
- Pro-active vs Re-active Planning & Actions
- and lots more!
When our students pass our classroom "open book" exam with a minimum passing score of 80%, they receive the Certified Flagger Card (laminated) the same day which is valid for 3 years from the date of issuance. The Certification Card is valid for use in the States of Washington, Oregon, Idaho & Montana.
